Eagles' Wings Visit, Part 2

One of the great things about our visit to EW was getting to play with the other kids.  They are used to people coming in so they warmed up to us very fast.

Some of the children we met have adoption files and are just waiting for their parents to find them.  Others have files in process.  Please check this page for photos of the children who are currently waiting for families.

She has the most adorable smile with dimples!

This little boy was so cute and funny I wanted to put him in my pocket and take him home too, but I think he already has a family.  He was so sweet with Therese and made her laugh.

This little girl is waiting for a family--she was so sweet and snuggly and I hope she gets one soon.

This little guy has a family already, and he is quite a little stinker!

After our visit to EW2, we enjoyed a wonderful American lunch with Donna, and Therese had so much fun playing with her younger daughter.  Therese just loves girly stuff.

We got to meet the kids at the apartment for those with mobility issues.  We woke them up from their naps and they were all very happy to see us.  It was interesting because Therese just went right in and started crawling around.  She warmed up there faster than anywhere else.  I think she knew these kids had similar issues--many of them also have spina bifida.  The nannies welcomed her warmly and it was funny to see them check the scar on her back a nd make a big deal of her whenshe got up to try to walk.  She acted like she was a celebrity after that and wanted to show off how she can get up on her feet and move.

I think this little guy is listed as Chad, but I didn't get a good picture of him.  He took Therese by the hand and made her part of the group.  He is the only one in the house who can walk unassisted.

These boys are waiting for families, so if anyone is looking for a son or knows someone who needs a boy, please consider one of them.  This little boy was so sweet--he talked to us, but I only understood "Cheng Cheng" and "America".  He has a wonderful smile that lights up his whole face and he is listed as "Sean" on the EW page.

I didn't get a good picture of this guy but he really wants a family!

Here is "Zach"-- he is just as adorable in person as he is in his pictures.  He is very smart and could probably walk if he could get some therapy and maybe AFOs.  He is shy so we didn't really interact with him much, although I would have liked to.  He is still waiting for a mommy and daddy.  He is another one I would love to take home in my suitcase.

Therese was having so much fun that she threw a temper tantrum when it was time to leave.

We got to the baby house at the same time they were getting up from naps, and some of the toddlers were not happy to see some scary strangers.  Therese really wanted to meet this little girl, but she started crying when she saw us.

The one who didn't mind being held by strangers was the youngest baby, a little preemie boy.  He was so snuggly.

The toddlers know Donna so they wanted her to hold them and protect them from the strangers.

Therese thought we had brought her to such a fun place.  She didn't know which toy she wanted to play with first.

She did pat the baby and check his pacifier, but then she went back to the toys.

I thought these pictures were so funny.  This little boy wanted to hold this little girl's hand.

She pulled her hand away.

He kept trying to reach for her hand, so she put it behind her back.

It looked like he was saying, "hey, she won't hold my hand!"

It was hard to say goodbye and leave.  I would have loved to spend a lot more time getting to know the kids, and it was wonderful to meet Donna, who has been giving years of  her life to help the children who live at Eagle's Wings.  After spending only a week and a half in China I understand more the sacrifices that she is making to live in a place where you are an outsider and you can't fully communicate with the people.  I don't think I could give up familiar food and comforts for so long.  I hope that more people will support the work here, by sponsoring a child or making a donation.  Eagle's Wings is a project of COAT, and you can find their main website  here, or pasting http://www.eagleswingschina.org/ into your browser.
