Zhengzhou, Thursday August 30

This was our last full day in Zhengzhou, and we started off as usual with a good breakfast.

After breakfast and skyping we get the kids in the stroller and wait in the lobby for our guide and driver.  The kids are always happy to be going somewhere in the morning.

We were supposed to go to a park today, but since it is so very hot and humid we opted for a brief visit to the remains of the Shang Dynasty city wall and then another trip to the mall.

The walls look like green mounds.

We were on a small street and what did we meet but a Chinese version of the semi-truck!

It was so bright I couldn't keep my eyes open for a picture, but here we are at a sign that says these are the old city walls.  It isn't in English of course, so we had to take our guide's word for it.

We tried to take pictures from the van of the chaos that is Zhengzhou traffic.  The pictures don't do it justice at all, and they don't give you any of the sounds and smells either.

This is what the air quality has been like every day.

After another trip into Carrefour, where we picked out a new toy for Cheng Cheng and a couple of other toys to take home, we stopped at Edible Arrangements.  This mall food court was really nice and they also had Dairy Queen and Papa Johns.  The kids were in a goofy mood while they waited for me to order.

This is one of the evil grins that Therese does.

She likes to get around by holding onto chairs, and of course then she can tease by hiding or playing hard to get.

I ordered a banana drink for Cheng Cheng, since it is his favorite fruit, but he went into shutdown mode and wouldn't taste it.  I'm not sure if he just didn't want to try something new, or he thought I was requiring them to drink these strange treats.

Hannah liked her frozen yogurt with fruit.  Something cold was great when it is so hot outside, and the Carrefour didn't seem to be air-conditioned, even though the food court area was.  There were even plastic curtains to keep the cold air from getting into the Carrefour.

Therese got so rowdy that we had to put her back in the stroller, which made her very mad. And she didn't like the frozen yogurt at all.  She did decide to try the drink and she seemed to like it.

We had dinner in the Palm Court restaurant over at the Crowne Plaza after naps and playtime.  They had a healthy sandwich that I really enjoyed, and the kids had a pasta dish that they loved.  They practically licked their plates clean.

Cheng Cheng was thinking that he was really tired of getting his picture taken.

Therese is almost always ready to be photographed.

Now that he has food in front of him, he is ready to smile.

The kids wanted to eat the rest of the ketchup--so I fed it to them with a spoon.  She hated the frozen yogurt, but look at her lapping up the ketchup!
